GETTING IT RIGHT … SELLING IT RIGHT

(HEATING  & A/C SYSTEM ESTIMATES)   By John Borden

Selling heating and air conditioning systems is an important part of our business…as it is for many of our customers.  To provide contractors  with accurate and  timely estimates  and good job layouts  we need to start from a good information base.  When we start  design work with all needed details  we can do a better, faster job of getting  top notch  system estimates  to  you.

This is some information we need to get the job done for you:

1. Fuel of  choice
2. Equipment brand of choice
3. Job name
4. Outside design temperature at jobsite
5. Preferred location of boiler, furnace, or air handler
6. On ducted systems,  show  us where trunk lines should be located
7. If system is zoned, show use where the zones will be
8. Average ceiling heights if not 8 feet

  1. Floor covering for each room on radiant

     floor systems
10. In concrete (wet) or under or on plywood  sub floors (dry)

When building drawings are on 8x11/14 paper,  check to see they are to some scale and be sure it's noted.  If no scale is used,  please mark down room and window sizes so we can give you an accurate estimate.   If  possible get  ¼"/foot  blueprints  with both floor plans and elevations.  Hand drawn  layouts are often better than poor quality professionally drawn prints.  With  good drawings we can provide you with  good layouts and accurate material  estimates.

Lastly, use our layouts to sell your jobs.   Show them to your customer…but never give them to him.  These layouts will convince him that  you have carefully considered his project and will do the  job correctly.  Spend time going over details.  This is where good presentation and  clear  communicating  will often get you the job.  Let us help you close the sale.
