Replacement furnaces

It's that time of year, your customers are starting to think about their heating systems.  When looking at furnaces which need replacing, always check the ductwork to confirm that it is large enough and you have enough outlets. Here are some quick check suggestions:
When you check the return, try to open the blower door while the blower is running.  If you can pull the door open about 1" and it stays in your hand your return is large enough, if the door wants to slam shut you may need to increase the size of the return.
If the furnace is still working,  check the temperature rise across the heat exchanger.  A high temperature rise would indicate low airflow causing the furnace to cycle off on high limit, shorting the life of the new furnace.
It is very important that you identify these problems and advise the homeowner that extra ductwork maybe needed to correct any problem.  If you wait until after the new furnace is installed and find your temperature rise is to high, the home owner will insist it's the new furnace causing the problem and not want to pay for any duct changes.  The homeowner maybe very happy if you need to add extra supply outlets, they may have rooms which are too cold and be thankful that you found their problem.  Don't forget to also suggest the addition of a Skuttle high efficiency air filter and a humidifier, and a UV-Aire purifying system.

Create a Cleaner, Healthier Home with
Skuttle High Capacity,
High Efficiency Air Cleaners

For you and your family, it's important to be able to think of home as a safe, healthy haven. That's why today, more and more homeowners are concerned about indoor air quality (IAQ). And for good reason. According to the American Lung Association, in-home levels of many common pollutants are two-to-five times higher (occasionally more than 100 times higher) than they are outside.
At the least, these microscopic contaminants (pollen; plant and mold spores; pet dander; lint; wood, tobacco and cooking smoke; bacteria; etc.) are known to cause eye, nose and throat irritation in many people. At the most, they can increase the risk of asthma, allergies, chronic bronchitis, lung cancer and  other  serious  respiratory  diseases. Fortunately, Skuttle's High-Capacity, High-Efficiency Air Cleaners are designed to provide peak, whole-house air filtration, helping to make your home cleaner and healthier for you and your loved ones.
Skuttle Duct-Mounted Air Cleaners capture most in-home contaminants in a deep-pleated filter. Deep pleating enables substantially more particulates to be trapped over a longer period than the standard, flat-filter designs found in 85 percent of American homes with forced air heating and central air conditioning. The results are:

  • Cleaner indoor air
  • A cleaner HVAC system
  • Longer filter life (up to 12 months)
  • Longer furnace life
  • Significant cost savings over time
  • A healthier living environment
