Solar Demand Heats Up!

Solar Demand Growing Market for Mechanical Contractors

Wow! Things are changing at a very disturbing pace in our economy. Since the last Yaunco Report, the price of fuel has shot up without a break on the horizon. As a result, people are rightfully concerned about how they will pay their fuel costs in the coming heating season.
We are excited about the prospect of offering an affordable solar generated domestic water heating system.

A standard drainback system sized for an average home (2-baths, 4-5 people) would consist of two 4’ x 8’ flat panels for the roof and a 10 gallon reservoir along with an 80 gallon storage tank with one backup electric element. Included also are two circulators and the differential control. An additional panel could be added if more hot water is needed to be generated or a larger storage tank could be supplied.

Substantial Federal and State Tax credits are available through 2008. I have confirmed with my town’s tax assessor that indeed, the increased value of the home as a result of installing the solar system is exempt from property taxes. The home owner must fill out a form with the local assessor for the exemption. For those home owners choosing to have a solar domestic water system installed, the worry of heating the home has not disappeared, but at least they can have hot showers and clean laundry.
