Indoor Air Pollution

Burt Robertson, HVAC Marketing Manager

Indoor Air Pollution Indoor air quality has become a popular buzz word in our industry. According to the American Lung Association and other experts in the field, there are three main ways to improve indoor air quality.

1. Toxic Clean UP - Don’t smoke indoors, limit chemicals used for cleaning purposes, wash bedding/linens in hot water to kill dust mites and keep pets outside.

2. Better Ventilation - Opening a window was once an excellent way to bring fresh air into the home. With this, there are security risks to consider, outdoor contaminants and energy concerns. A Fantech Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) is designed to bring a continuous supply of fresh, filtered air into your home while expelling stale contaminated air. Think of these units as extensions to the heating and cooling system. HRVs use what is called a “sensible” heat recovery core. This special core transfers heat from the exhaust air stream to the incoming air stream. Fresh incoming air is tempered by the heat that is transferred from the outgoing air so you save on energy costs. Fantech HRVs are equipped with automatic defrost mechanisms so even if you live in the coldest climates you can use your HRV all year long. You’ll save energy too.

3. Clean and Filter the Air - Properly maintain the heating and cooling systems in your home. Replace filters regularly. Install a mechanical air cleaner or good air filter along with a Fantech Heat Recovery Ventilator. Ask your salesman for more information.
