Ventalarms... Itís Building Code Requirement)

The last issue of the Yaunco Report mentioned the fact that fuel oil delivery companies were refusing to deliver fuel to a residence that was not equipped with a ventalarm. It noted that this was an insurance issue rather than a code requirement. Since then Patrick McGar of Van Etten Oil Company was kind enough to point out that in the NYS Building Code in Chapter M13 is section M1306 that reads as follows; SM1306.3 Inside Tanks. The gauging of inside tanks by means of measuring sticks shall not be permitted. An inside tank provided with fill and vent pipes shall be provided with a device to indicate either visually or audibly at the fill point when the oil in the tank has reached a predetermined safe level.
