Hallowell International: The Next Best Thing

Burton Robertson, HVAC Marketing Manager

Geothermal ground source heat pump systems are today’s state of the art heating and cooling systems or so everyone thinks. This is a way to utilize the heat stored in the ground for our heating and cooling needs which is a great idea; however, that being said Geothermal does have its disadvantages.

Does the property lend itself to the spacing requirements needed for the distance from the foundation and the spacing required between wells if they are going vertical? If this is a horizontal job do you have enough soil depth and surface area for the required footage of tubing? Does the homeowner really understand that they will have to dig in their finished landscape and deal with the aftermath associated with drilling or digging trenches? Hallowell International offers an alternative that is the next best thing. Most people can’t conceive that there is heat in the outdoor air which can be very easily extracted and transferred into your home or business, but there is. The flagship product of Hallowell International is the Acadia, a combined heating and cooling system, which will do just that. Unlike a standard heat pump which pulls out less heat from the outdoor air as the temperature gets colder the Acadia has the ability to efficiently capture and transfer heat down to -30°F. This is truly a state-of-the-art unit using a patented technology known as “Boosted Compression” to remove the heat within the outdoor air and transfer it into your home or office.

Acadia has the ability to maintain discharge air temperatures up to 125 degrees Fahrenheit unlike geothermal systems that depend on the ground which can start to freeze up and cut down on the output as heat is extracted from it. The outdoor air temperature which is always changing and is in the 40 degree range 70% of the time is a natural for the Acadia.

One of the benefits of the Acadia is that you maintain control of the job and no subcontractors like well drillers or excavators to oversee or pay. To complete the installation you simply install the outdoor unit on a pad and elevate the unit on snow stands, very similar to a conventional heat pump installation. You can now offer a system with very high COP ratings and operating costs comparable to a Geothermal system with little or no damage to the property. Since there is little site work required you are able to do whole job yourself, no need for subcontractors, saving you those costs.
