How is the Air Quality in Your Home and Office?

It’s been a few months since we had to close our windows and seal up all the leaks in our homes to save on heating costs. With our homes and offices now sealed very tightly, we have been getting very little fresh air infiltration for the last few months. How good is the air quality? Is the air stuffy or has lingering odors? Have you noticed static electricity and your skin, nose and throat feeling dry? The air circulating in the average home or office can be concentrated with contaminants including molds, bacteria, and viruses. We fill our lungs up to 20,000 times each day. Over time, these contaminants can cause inflammation of the mucous membrane, upper respiratory problems, asthmatic conditions, headaches and flu-like symptoms.

What can we do to improve these unwanted conditions? If you have a warm air heating system you have it made. You can add a Field UVAIRE air purifier, which mounts on the side of your main supply or return duct. It has a UV-C bulb which inserts inside the duct. The high intensity UV-C lamp sterilizes or kills most contaminants as the air from the entire house is circulated past the UV-C lamp. With a UV-Aire mounted in the duct, cumulative exposure can be very effective in controlling indoor bacteria, mold, viruses, and other microorganisms.

I put a UV-1500-C model in my house and noticed a big difference the first day when I woke up and I was not congested. You can also add an air exchanger which will bring in fresh air through a heat exchanger to regain some of the heat which would be exhausted. A humidifier will allow thermostats to be set back 1 –2 degrees. This is a simple way to trim heating costs. Humidified air feels warmer than dry air. A good air filter will help the air quality and help keep equipment running more efficiently by reducing dust, grime and smoke on the indoor coils.
